The Mokelumne River AVA is a sub‐AVA of the Lodi Appellation. The soil in the area is alluvial fan deposits of sand and loam. Ample rainfall and soil moisture retention allows most grape growers to farm without the use of irrigation. When one thinks of Zinfandel one ought to this of Lodi. And the vice versa is also true. This old, dry‐farmed vineyard on Ray Rd is always among the darkest of any that we produce. It tends to have very concentrated flavors of blackberry or wild elderberry.
